In Kenya I combined my practice-based research on the topic of repair and regenerative textile design with the sustainable design principles developed into practice during writing my master's thesis – zero-waste patterncutting, upcycling and the use of monomaterials. Here I added the mindset of craftivism and observing the systems of nature.
During this creative residency I made the first prototypes for “Design for Layers of Repair” out of Rivatex factory surplus materials. I was inspired by their flawed ends and beginnings of the fabric rolls, as an outcome of the printing process. I hope to promote a shift in aesthetics and invite people to co-create emotional durability.
