Reet Aus,
Jacket Collection, 2024
Material: new fabric, defective or leftover 100% cotton fabric from Kenya
Fashion designer Reet Aus has created three distinctive jackets in collaboration with local seamstresses from the Rivatex textile and garment factory.
All the jackets share the same cut but differ in fabric choice. The dark blue jacket (A), is sewn from new cotton fabric. The other two jackets were created following the principle of upcycling. One is made from fabric remnants with color defects (B) —the imperfections give the jacket a unique and one-of-a-kind appearance. The other (C) jacket was made from cotton fabric that had been stored unused in the factory’s warehouse for years. It was given new life with the addition of a bold white pattern. In both upcycled jackets, leftover buttons and thread from standard production were also used.
By making jackets from fabric remnants, the environmental footprint of the product is significantly reduced.
