Second Chance exhibition in design capital Valencia

On 9 May, the exhibition "Second Chance" will be opened in Valencia, Spain, as part of the World Design Capital project. Organised in collaboration between the EKA and the Estonian Designers' Association, the exhibition at the Palacio de Colomina features the work of more than 20 Estonian designers.

The sustainable design exhibition "Second Chance" focuses on the theme of reuse, which has been in the spotlight of the design scene in recent years, showing how designers' creative thinking and use of clever technologies and techniques can bring used objects back to life as new products, protecting the environment and conserving limited resources.

In the exhibition, the EKA's Sustainable Design and Materials Laboratory DiMa will showcase textile and fashion product samples and project results from recent years related to circular design research, focusing on three circular design methods: local upcycling; industrial upcycling and mechanical recycling. Each of the three sub-themes will be accompanied by a short video clip, in addition to product samples, which will give a broader background to the theme.

In addition to raising awareness of the environmental impact of textile waste, the aim of the exhibition is to provide a range of recycling solutions and inspiration for designers involved in the sector, whose awareness and decisions in the design process are essential to ensure the sustainability and circularity of future products.

As part of the Lab exhibition, designers Reet Aus, Cärol Ott, Kristel Aimee Laur, Sandra Luks and Maria Kristiin Peterson will present their products.

On 9 May, starting at 17.00, a conference will be held at the Palacio de Colominas (Carrer de l'Almodí 1) to introduce Estonian design, where Ilona Gurjanova will give an overview of the development of Estonian design and sustainable design projects will be presented by Reet Aus, Senior Research Fellow, Head of the Circular Design Research Unit of the Sustainable Design and Materials Laboratory of the EKA, Piret Puppart, Head of the Fashion Department of the EKA and Marta Moorats, Lecturer in Accessories Design at the EKA.
